I have a Phillips DVD Recorder, when I insert a DVD it takes, literally about an hour to load, then I get a message:"Unknown Disc". Anyone have any suggestions? Apart from binning it,of course. Many Thanks.

Thanks,10ClarionST.much appreciated.
I know they can be a bit temperamental about playing certain discs but it does sound like your laser is kaput. Why not see if you can pick another Phillips recorder up cheap on eBay? This is what I did when my Lite-On DVD recorder started playing up. I managed to get exactly the same model as mine for a couple of quid, in fact I've picked up a total of four on eBay during the last three years, the prices ranging from 99p to a fiver (but then there's the postage to be taken into consideration, of course). I keep telling myself they'll come in handy for spares but I've actually ended up with five fully working DVD recorders! Hope you manage to sort it out.

I'll try that, bravejordy,Thanks for your help.
I had a similar problem with my LG DVD recorder - it wouldn't recognize any discs, not even brand new ones or discs previously recorded with the recorder. It said "No Disc" to ANY disc. I took it for repairs and they repaired it, said it was the laser reader that packed up. Works fine now! Get it repaired, yours may have the same problem.

Thanks,rythmcrazy.
I have one of these and it says somewhere in the manual about holding down the zero on the remote when putting the disc in the drive, this will format the disk on a different way so that it plays.

Check the manual - If you have no manual you can google and download one.
