company laptop screen has just gone totaly black, not a glimmer, is it safe to assume the screen needs replacing ?
(once i have made sure the HD is running/working)

Plug in an external monitor to see if you can get anything on that.

Also try pointing a torch at the screen, if you can see a faint image the screen itself is fine but the backlight (or inverter) has gone.

cheers for the advice,monitor doesnt work so cant help thinking its a bit more terminal!!
