My computer only holds recent items for a day or less, although it can be useful to work on some a few days in a row and be able to access them with one click. I know how to extend the number (no need) but not the time. Is it possible? I'm using XP, my Vista laptop holds a page of them permanently so clearly a required fix, but can I do it for XP?

Can you not save the documents to your hard drive, in your documents file? I do that all the time, I don't ever rely on "recent files" only.
Does seem a slightly strange thing to rely on... but...

All they seem to have is increase numbers and turn on and off. As my earlier computers kept recent documents for a few days I know it can, but seemed a random decision in that case, and this one does not. I'm guessing it deletes them every time you close down, and unless you can find a way to hack (and probably damage) the system it's probably impossible either way. Unless you know different?
