Automated phone call nuisance

I'm currently getting automated phone calls every quarter hour: "This is a free phone call, press 1 to accept, 9 to reject..." Is there any quick way to stop this?

What happens if I press 9?

Oh dear, I've not had any of those - but our call prevention service seems to have stopped a load of our unwanted calls.

Pressing 1 or 9 will probably cost you rather a lot of money. Just hang up and complain to your provider.

we've already got call prevention, but presumably this has slipped through somehow. I don't want the blighters calling me every 15 minutes for ever.

(Maybe it'll stop of its own accord, but I'm not putting money on it.)

Many thanks for all the advice offered. One thing I have found is that the notion that pressing 9 will instantly put you through to a premium number in Belize seems to be an urban myth.

I must agree these nuisance calls are getting worse recently - we are with the Telephone Preference Service but they only stop UK ones ..........

Fingers crossed, then, the TPS stops ours, I don't want 'em....

Try www.tps.online.org - I registered with them and unwanted calls dropped by 99% overnight. And good advice from the others - don't under any circumstances press any buttons, just hang up till you're registered with TPS - Telephone Preference Service. Good luck!

I'm already with TPS, but on this occasion it didn't work (at least initially; maybe it's kicked in now).
