Is there a DVD or CD Rom showing in My Computer?
Does it open/close?
When you place a disc .. does it spin up and then just do nothing?
Can you open a data disc in Windows Explorer or by folder?

What players do you have installed? .. apart from Windows Media player .. and what O System are you using? .. XP? Windows 7?
