Wretched Buddy again!
8 Answers
Thanks for 2 responses to my ? of how to get rid of this advertiser who ruins my internet sessions. I tried the Safe Mode, but no joy, and I'm not clever enough to know how to reinstall Windows without losing anything precious. I guess I'm stuck with it. Have tried to locate the file path in DOS but it can't find it - only on Search, which tells me it's a Cabinet File - I've opened it but it won't delete. Any more ideas/suggestions appreciated. Thanks a lot. Jude.

You can also remove the many files and registry entries manually if you are confident enough to go tinkering with your registry etc.

That way you can be use that any removal tool (such as the 1st link) doesn't put more spyware on your computer

It'd have to delete registry entries, shut down active processes and delete hard to find files. I'm not sure how comprehensive NIS is but that's a job for antispyware rather than just antivirus and firewall which would'nt (alone) remove the underlying problem.
But, as I say, it might be that NIS has other features that does provide a fix.
jsiford, how confident are you backing up your registry and deleting a handful of entries in there manually (in safe mode) ??

This is to Stevie21 thanks for replies. Tried pctuneup and errors found. Moved a few usuing regedit but couldn't find all of them. The second link is for computer techies - not me! Checked again with Xoftspy, decided to pay up the 42 bucks, cleaned computer - and the WRETCHED Buddy is ever present!!! Waste of dosh and I'm demoralised. And knackered. Maybe try again tomorrow. I will not be beaten! Jude
If you back up your registry and your PC goes wonky then you can revert back to the old version. You would, however, need to delete all of the dll, .exe (and even .html) files that are present on your PC if you're doing this manually.
Best of luck - I hope you've got a technically minded friend who can look at this for you if you're still having problems

Thanks for all advice - I have no idea how to back up my registry and have already downloaded SpyWare etc. I don't think it's a good idea for me to fiddle with the registry as unless it's obvious I haven't a clue what anything stands for - maybe I'll go on holiday! Alas, none of my friends are techies.
thanks anyway. Jude
