Getting rid of AV thing on TV screen

Been annoying me for a while but can't figure how to get rid of a big green AV then a number and symbol underneath which is in the top left hand side of the screen TV (well, TV in rented house). The number changes depending if I have sky/dvd etc... on.

I've tried various buttons on the TV remote but can't work out how to get rid of it. I don't notice it so much on day to day TV but it's really annoying on films.

It's a Sony Trinitron TV, one of the older ones with a full back (not a flatscreen or newer one).

A 'full back' .. lol : )

One of those remote buttons puts the display of the input (AV) on screen permanently ..
On the Sony remote for a widescreen CRT .. with the 'TV' written on the remote below 'SONY', it is a green square with a Q mark in it .. or a black one with an 'i' in it. One press leaves AV input showing on screen .. another press gets rid of it.

Hi Albags :) I had a look and there is the Sony sign with TV underneath then underneath that is RM-933 then a little black box with a fancy kind of R in it, all at the bottom of the remote.

I can't see a green square with a "Q" or black one with an "i" anywhere on the remote though.

But I just pressed one with a little question mark over it and it disappeared!!! Switched the TV off and back on again and it was there but disappeared when I pressed the same button. Only took me two and a half years haha!

At least I know how I can switch it off when it annoys me now, figured I'm make an effort to find out as hoping to catch up on some DVDs now I've finally got some decent time off work.

Oh were you one of the ones who was trying to help me with my playing up washing machine (amongst other things), I solved the problem, have new washing machine :) All better now!

Is there a TV screen with a '+' on your remote?

Hi Matt,

No there isn't, the only plusses are on the volume and programme buttons.

The button I pressed which got rid of it temporarily has got a TV screen shape on it with nothing in it although it is an old TV and remote so I guess something in it could have rubbed off.

Glad that sorted it! Quite why TV's need this permanent dispaly of the input, I dont know. : )
