how can you make installation discs?

i have not got the discs to re-install software and maps on my satnav - should it ever need to be reinstalled...

i have copied all the files etc from the device onto my pc, but if i needed to put them back all id be able to do is copy them across to the device - but would this 'install' the OP and make it work?

or do i need to connect it to a proper disc?

basically can i make my own 'autorun' installation discs, using these software files etc?

and if so, how?

Little hard to give a constructive answer as you've kept the make and model of the sat nav a secret.

If it's just map data then copying the files back would possibly work, if it's the system too then it probably wouldn't work.

sorry, didnt think that would matter - its a Medion GoPal E3240

i have never had the disc - bought it online and the person didnt have the disks.

all i have is what i have copied across with a usb.

if i reformatted it would presumably wipe it... but maybe a hard reset would fix it but keep the OS intact?

it works ok now, but i am trying to work out whether to risk keeping it and accept the partial refund the seller has offered, and hope i never need the discs - or return it and try to find something else....it was a bargain...

my older satnav was sold second hand and i never once needed to use the discs ven thoughi did reset a few times...so wondered how likely it is that ill ever need them...?

why, do you think you could make discs for one model of satnav but not others?

i presumed it was a process that was pretty standard regardless of what it was for, and not particular to the actual model...

Most Sat Navs come without installation discs as they are a through away item or return to base for repair, the only data that should need updating would be new road networks and possibly speed trap Data if used by your system.

its more if theres a malfunction and i need to format it - like you may do with a laptop - reset to factory settings to stop glitches.
