hi my friends pc will play cd's but she cant burn a cd. Does anyone know what is wrong with it

How old is it? It could simply be that it has a CD reader only and not CD reader / writer.

These are quite rare these days but were very common at one time...

What make / model is it?

Does it say CD/R or CD/RW (or something similar) on it?

Has it ever been able to burn CDs on it?
