As long as it's working i'd not worrie too much! all computers and machines can make noises! shows that they are active and are working! I have a virus program running like most people online should have running and it often will check on my hard drives to make sure there safe causing them to make noises. As long as its not a crackling or a bang sound you'l be ok!

Im dubious because its a pattern of clicks, it will be quiet then click about 12 times then silent again rather than a click every so often. it is quite specific. :/
Does it sound like this? (there's a sound file half way down the page):

You have all your info backed up, right? ;-p

I did think of the click of death, the drive is relatively new and I was hoping that the occasional bout of clicks with no other symptoms would not necessarily mean it was a gonner :/

time to start backing up crap :(

thx for the replies.
