Firefox 9.0.1

I have up-dated FF from 8.0 to 9.0.1 in the knowledge that Mozilla claims it improves speeds.
My question, therefore, is...."Speeds of what is it supposed to improve."?
There hasn't been any alteration to my normal Broadband speeds. ( Down averaging 7.0 and Up 0.36 )
Perhaps FF 9.0.1 is specially designed for 'Tablets'; whereas I am operating with Windows Vista on a HP Desktop and also a Dell Laptop.

AOG, I suggest you click the Firefox tab top left, click the little arrow next to 'help' then click 'restart with addons disabled'.
See if it makes a significant difference. If it does, you know that one of your addons needs to be disabled.,
As already said, the speed refers to how fast it opens a webpage.

Pity aog hasn't said what problems he was getting, because AB did seem to be malfunctioning yesterday. In fact there were times when I couldn't enter the site and when successful I found everything was somewhat haywire and I was being 'Timed-Out'. Most annoying , especially after typing a reply and loosing it upon hitting the 'submit' button.

I am sorry I should have been more specific.
The first problem I had, which seems to be intermittent was that my bookmark toolbar would fail to appear.
It would only appear if I clicked on 'View' and then 'toolbars' un-tick 'bookmark tool bar', and then re-tick it, my toolbar would then re-appear with all my bookmark icons.
This problem seems to have settled down in the last few days, but I now get the following message every time I switch on my computer:
V Protect Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. I then get the opportunity to either send a report to Microsoft or not to, I click 'no' and the window goes away and my computer seems to function ok.
This problem still exists.
Another problem I experienced was that from time to time firefox would need to close, and I could restart it in the condition it was in before it crashed, meaning it would save all my work etc.
This problem also seems to have stopped.
Life was much easier with the older version.

hc is right. In fact yesterday another reference was made to 'V Protect and, whilst Chris has suggested Avast as an alternative to AVG, I am problem free with MSE.

I don't know if it will be safe re-loading AVG or even using Avast, would I first have to delete the one I now have, and if I did would my computer be protected while I downloaded the new one?
Perhaps it would be best to put up with the pop-up, what do you think?

aog....I have waited a few hours since your last posting, in the hope that bibblebub and/or hc4361 would return to this thread and advise you far better than I can.
Truth is that I am not a Techie and get lost on the whole question of protecting computers from viruses. My understanding is that virus protection programmes do not give real time protection and that is why we have to have them set-up to do a scan at specific periods. Consequently, viruses can enter at any time and a scan will identify if any have done so.
Accordingly,I wouldn't be worried about getting rid of your present AVG and then download say MSE (Microsoft Security Essential) and give it a run on your computer to establish that all is clean. You certainly do not want to have two protection programmes because they can cause conflict and, I have been led to believe, possible damage.
