Hello, old computer mic didn't work, so I bought a new one today. I plug it in to the correct place but it won't work. Anyone know what could be wrong or how i could fix this?

Are you sure that it's in the right socket? It's the red one.

Assuming that's right, double click on the speaker icon down beside the clock in the system tray. If "Microphone" is visible, make sure it isn't muted and the fader is turned up. If it isn't visible, click Options.......Properties, make sure that your sound card is selected in the Mixer drop down box, then check the box beside "Microphone". When you click OK, the microphone fader should be there. Do as above. Then it should be ok.
You know this means that your old one was probably fine!

Try this.

Go to control panel, select "sound & audio devices"

In the S&A file select AUDIO then select SOUND RECORDING...ADVANCED

Make sure microphone volume is turned up and select box is ticked. You should have an ADVANCED button here, select it and make sure the 2 boxes at bottom are ticked (1 microphone boost, 2 front panel microphone)

Repeat the process in VOICE just to be sure. Worked for me.

I recently ran a new audio program for the first time and for some reason it turned one of the volume controls on my PC down to zero.
As Cristo says, one thing I'd check is Sounds & Audio from the Control Panel.
Then click "Audio" and "Volume". Under Options you can have it display every type of volume by ticking a few checkboxes. Make sure none of them are low/muted.

THEN worry yourself that some hardware may be broken.
