hotmail blocked

I tried to get onto my email account this evening but it has been blocked. The message is telling me it is because junk mail and spam is being sent from my email address.If I want to reconnect I have to set up a new email account so they (windows live) can send a verification code that I can use to regain my account. The trouble is I am being asked to divulge passwords and answers to secret questions and then numbers of, I think credit cards (last four digits) except the word they use is not credit card but sounds american(zip number??). Can anybody shed light on the authenticity of what is happening.

Zip code is American for post code...

But if they are asking for any information that you haven't already told them about previously then it sounds dodgy (hotmail would have no idea what my postcode is so it wouldn't help them to verify my identity)

No, dont give anything - bona fide companies always say they NEVER ask you for personal info/passwords - not sure how you're gonna unblock it tho :(
