It depends on who is doing the opening.

If it's my Dad, it's called a hammer....:o/
It's called £14.99 at Maplin

Thank all. I don't think I'll bother. The Maplin one costs nearly £15. I'll just continue to get a jeweller to replace the battery for a fiver.
This is a lot cheaper and works well:

When I had a screw backed watch I removed it by using a pair of long nosed pliers in two of the opposite "nicks" in the back. The pliers must have small tips.
You could undercut the jeweller's prices for your friends & family and soon get the money back.
HowardKenitby, I thought Maplin was the Holiday Camp on Hi Di Hi?

If I did that the jeweller would probably dob me in to the DHSS and my benefits would be stopped. It's not worth the risk .

'a butter knife'
Coventry market this week - £2 to supply & fit one watch battery - or 3 for a £5 :)
weecalf: the thin knife blade won't remove a screw-on back.
It's called a screwdriver. Well it works for me.
A dobbing jeweller :-)
I'd rather pay the jeweller............he gives it a good clean and polish at the same time.
Hi sandy...Depends on how long you think your watch is going to last. At £5 a time to replace a battery, it might be worth considering what I did a few years back......I purchased a life time battery guarantee from my local Timpsons for £11.99... The battery is a standard one suitable to the watch concerned, but there is Not any charge to have it replaced....I'm now on my third battery.

I use a mini screw driver (3set in xmas cracker), slipped under cover & braced against strap.
The person who's opening it? (I'm not referring to sandyRoe, I'ts just a bit of comedic license!
