I've just purchased a digital tv with Freeview on it for my brother who is in a care home. He has an analogue tv at the moment with just 4 channels on it. Should I wait until this area goes digital before switching his tv over and will he be able to get BBC1 and 2 on it still?

The whole country has digital signals at the moment as far as I am aware. There seems little reason not to use the Freeview TV.

It's possible your digital TV has an analogue input anyway if he is going to miss the BBC Teletext.
We have a TV with built in Freeview but have been told we will need to retune after switchover, so if you do it now you may need to re tune again or he will loose ALL channels eventually.

Hope that helps (I am sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly)

The places still left to be made digital are, Tyne Tees 26 Sept 2012, London TV 180April 2012, Meridian TV Feb to June 2012, & Ulster TV 24 October 2012.

Here in Dorset we are half way through a 2 week switchover period and until last week i couldn't receive a digital signal; then suddenly a few channels (just the BBC ones) became available. So not everywhere can receive a digital signal before the official switchover.

Thx for all yr replies. This area goes digital in June so I think I'll hang on til then incase as silliemille says, we may have to retune it. A chap at who works at COMET said the signal for BBC 1 & 2 is only 25% at the moment.
