if you have a phone that allows net access, and you pay a fee for it, if you also are able to 'bypass' the phones internet service and connect directly to your home wifi service, does this still count towards your phones data or service charges?

or is it separated? and therefore is free?

i can do both on my windows phone and i wondered if it was still being counted

I would say not, I use my phone a lot at home over the wifi and it's not come off my allowance, that being said I was on another forum a few months ago where a woman said her daughter was on the wifi and the phone company charged her £1 a day, I'm inclined to think the woman had no clue about internet connections and that the daughter was actually using mobile data rather than wifi, she was insistant though.

I connect to the internet via my phone only by my home WiFi, I never even use the allowance included in my contract, let alone go over it.

rocky you have to have your phone set up to join your network. My Iphone will look for my network first and if it can't find it then it will go to the O2 data allowance...maybe dear daughter hadn't set her phone up properly?

That is true woof, I always have the mobile data and 3g switched off so that I never unintentionally use it. I only switch it on when I want it.
