Clipping DVD's

A few yers ago when I was able to watch DVD's on my CD Rom via software, there was a record function allowing me to clip bits to my hard drive.

Now I have a DVD player and also a DVD recorder and neither seem to be able to do this?

I am not talking about pirating here or copying whole DVD's just the odd funny clip that can then be sent by email or converted to play on a phone.

Does anyone know how this can be done? Or perhaps a third party download that can do this?

Any help would be appreciated.

you sure it was the DVD on your CD-ROM drive? Cos they're completely differnet discs, so shouldnt be compatible at all, even with firmware changes.

To get bits of a film or something, you can use software like DVDDecrypter to get the files to your hard drive, then use someting like TMPGEnc to select a certain scene and convert it to a normal mpeg clip.

Note: if this DVD is copyrighted by anyone but yourself, then what you're doing is illegal, regardless of how short the clip is.
