Data network mode

If you leave this activated on a mobile phone but don't use any Internet on said phone will it still cost money while its switched on?

Be careful, as switching on data network mode on phones can effectively disable your SMS text and call facilities, as below:

Someone said: Its probs coz ur data network mode is tuned on. To turn it off, simply press and hold onto the power button til a little screen comes up, untick data network mode and you'll be able to send texts again.

Thanks nibs texting etc seems fine just don't want it running up my bill if I leave it activated might just deactivate it anyway

You will have to activate it to download any updates for the phone at sometime though, but it's easy to do.

On the iPhobe, I can still send texts with mobile data switched on. I always keep it switched off until I want to use the internet whilst out. My brother told me to switch it on or I won't be able to send or recieve picture messaging, I don't do that anyway so not a problem. Sorry, I can't answer your original question.

And you'd trust technical support from anyone that says "probs cuz ur"!!

Turning on data will have no effect on the ability to send messages or make calls...

To answer the question, yes the phone can still use data if you don't browse the internet, it'll use it to check on any email accounts you may have setup, or to check for updates, or to check for anything like facebook notifications... (these are examples, there are other things)

And it stands to reason, of course, to always switch it off if you go abroad. Last weekend in Hong Kong I thought I`d turn it on and just have a little peek at the internet. I`ve just looked at my online bill. That little peek cost me £131!

Seriously though fs, shouldn't cost money, as you're not using 3G internet as you said, and sms doesn't use an internet connection anyway. ☺♥
