Typing accents

Is there any easy way to type accents in French or German on a standard English Windows 2000 QWERTY computer keyboard? How do French and Geman users manage with their version(s)?

E Acute - 130
E Grave - 138
A Circumflex - 131
A umlaut - 132
C Sidila - 135
There are many others in the number range 001 to 250 or so, I suggest experimenting or looking in the back of an old MS DOS book

There are also lots of keyboard shortcuts, e.g. press Ctrl+' (apostrophe), release these keys, then type the letter e, for e with acute accent. To find out what they all are, click on "symbol" on the "insert" menu, select "normal text" from the drop-down menu on the "symbols" tab, select the accented character you want and it will show you the keyboard shortcut. (This works in Word 97 - don't know about later versions.)
