How do I actually get to speak to a BT engineer in this country rather than some guy in a call centre in Bangalore?

You can't speak to a BT engineer, the engineers work for BT openreach, which is a different company to the one you deal with.
Chuck's answer provides the clue. When you next see an Openreach van parked at the roadside, and yer man with his head in one of those green boxes, go and have a friendly chat with him. Worked for me.
I've always found Bangalore to be very helpful.
Maybe it's just me, I always get Bangalore mixed up with Bangalot.

I have always found the BT reps in India very helpful. They have always sorted-out quite quickly any of my complaints. But of course I am Welsh and, with my 'sing-song' accent, they probable think that I am one of them.

I am with TalkTalk for phone and Broadband, but when the phone went wrong, I reported it to TalkTalk VIA THEIR WEBSITE and got a call almost immediately on my mobile, giving me the number of the Open Reach engineer. Problem sorted within 24 hours.
A neighbour of mine was with 'Talk Talk' and, a few years back, when severe lightening struck in our area and all telephone lines were put out of action, he was last on the list for attention by BT whose landlines were involved with the service he was getting from TT.

It was a severe thunder storm and lightening actually struck my house and my Insurance claim involved the 'write-off' of a 'plugged-in' Laptop, Desktop, TV set, Bedside Radio etc. However within 24hrs I was back on line Telephone wise and, if my comps had not been put out of action, I would have been back on line for the Internet.

Good on BT I say......Ron.

You can ask to speak to someone in England and they HAVE to transfer you

My problem is that my internet keeps dropping out. There was also a crackle on the phone line. (All conections into master socket).
ISP said BT problem
BT (Bangalore) said they have checked the line and found no fault
BT (website) also said they will repair the problem by yesterday evening. Not done, still got the problem with internet although phone crackle seems to have gone.
I want to bang heads together - but which heads?
Be aware that if you ask BT to come to your property to check out your Broadband and they find nothing wrong with their side of the installation they will charge you £130.00.

Do as I said earlier and ask others for advice first.
