I suspect my PC is infected by a virus which is not being picked up by a full scan by my F Secure Anti Virus.
Each time I switch on the PC, the Desktop appears with all the icons bundled together down the left hand side of the screen even though they had been rearranged beforehand.
Can anyone offer any advice please?
Thanks

right click on the dektop. Do you have some kind of "auto arrange icons" set on? It doesn't sound lke a virus.
I doubt that's a virus. If it is and that's the only problem then it seems harmless

No Squarebear, 'auto arrange icons' is not set on.
I have had other indications of a virus but these appear to have cleared and left me with this problem instead.
Thanks, anyway to you both.
arrange to grid?
I'm not sure anyone would write a virus just to move your icons to the left.

O.K If it's not a virus can anyone suggest a possible cause and cure please?
Thanks
yes, you are absolutely correct.
This is a sign of virus infection.
Maybe you can try any other free anti-virus program to run a full scan on your computer.
You may have a try with Avast Free, AVG Free, Anvi Smart Free, or Microsoft security essential.

Thanks, SamualCage. I have now completed a more thorough scan with F Secure which has found and deleted a number of viruses. In m own mind I think the system is now clear but am thinking that in the time it was infected some settings may have been changed causing some residual problems including the rearrangement of the icons on the desktop.
I think a visit to the local computer shop is due and he will run the antivirus on one of those you mention.
Thanks for your comments.
