3 mobile all you can eat data

Does anyone know if 3 all you can eat data is in fact that or is there a fair usage policy?

I have a iPhone on the "3" mobile package to which you refer. All you can eat means exactly that,totally unlimited Internet access with no limit.
You can also use your phone as a modem to connect to a laptop ( tethering ) in a good reception area this system works perfectly.

I haven't got a laptop but I am on all you can eat but I have got texts from 3 saying I am almost at my data limit which made me wonder if there was a limit. I haven't run it down much further after that so have not been charged any more money, just wondered if there was something in the small print I had missed as is often the case with these deals

Yes I used to get the same messages until I phoned "3" and they told me to ignore the messages. I know this sounds weird so I would suggest you phone them to clear this up. Hope you come right with this as I've had no problems for over a year now.

If you have the time you could call their support line (free if you are using the 3 network) and get them to clarify the situation. I haven't had wait long when I've needed to contact them about mobile broadband.

(p.s. tethering isn't restricted to iPhones)

Tethering is virtually undetectable unless you are a style victim with an iPhone - and even they can be hacked to stop them reporting it.

My Samsung Galaxy acts as a very good mini WAP when needed - all within my standard data plan.

An excerpt from a document on Three's website about data management across their network:

TrafficSense™ are tools and insight we use across the Three network for
the intelligent management of data traffic. TrafficSense™ looks at types of data traffic and behaviour that stop other users from enjoying a fair allocation of our network. Traffic management is a tool used by TrafficSense™, but it will only manage a very small percentage of users on our network – and the vast majority will actually benefit from higher speeds and a better internet experience.

The only thing that could slow down their network and prevent other users from 'enjoying their fair share" would be a person doing a lot of downloading. The only way you could prevent that would be to slow down their downloading so that it has less of an impact on that 'cell' of the network. On what grounds do they slow down a person's data if there are 'no strings attached' to the usage of said feature?

It is a contradiction in terms. There are quite obviously invisible, silent thresholds for heavy users of data - even if they suggest that there aren't.
