There seems to be an email that has a virus on it that once someone receives it, it attaches to their address book and then forwards it on to everyone in that persons's address book. I have just received it from someone on my imac and presumably it will be sent to all my contacts. I have deleted it from trash, is it likely to have messed my imac up as I do not have virus protection on it. Presume it is safe to use my accounts online?
Thanks.

You need to have an antivirus prgram installed on your computer . There are some good free ones available. Dont fall for the myth that Macs are imune to virus infections they aren't and never were because as they are getting more popular the virus writers are targetting them now as well as Windows ones.
