mobile roaming.
12 Answers
I'm off on my hols to France tomorrow and I and my wife and son all have smart phones and we dont want any nasty charges, myself and the wife may make a couple of calls and we will all send text messages, but its the internet data roaming charges that worries me, so what do i turn off, I should add I have an I-Phone, my wife a Galaxy S, and my son, a windows phone.
I should add that where my parents live (in the middle of nowhere) you are lucky to get a signal, let a lone a 3g signal.
Thanks for any help.
Dave.

Probably best to turn off voice mail too to stop you being tempted to call in and listen at international rates. (Mine is permanently off.)
Remember if you asnwer a call the caller pays for the UK part, you pick up the bill for the more expensive international/local leg. You may wish to reject calls and initiate any calls you think important, yourself. If the incoming call is important they could always text first.

Also check with your provider, there may be special roaming bundles that could reduce the costs. And you need to be sure your mobile account is set to allow use abroad, and they may even be able to block some things for you. I'd expect your mobile account to already be enabled for foreign land use but you never know. I have read that some accounts default to UK only.
