Any advice as to how to make this go faster. I've googled and got lots of sites then have to pay and I don't want to. I know overnight I can defrag and clean discs but is there anything I can do now. Thank you.

Done that, no good but thanks!
Have you cleared out the history under internet options?
download fee cc cleaner run registry check for issues
free not fee
and click on run cleaner
Have you fitted as much memory(RAM) as the machine can take?
if all else fails and it used to run fast then back up your folders etc
then do a re-install from your disc or from the installation files on your hard drive
google on how to re-install o/s on laptop
You could have some programs running all the time at Start-up which you don't need to run.
Got START, RUN. type msconfig in the box and click OK.
On next screen, click the STARTUP tab. This will show all the programs which are loaded and running. If you know what the programs do and you don't need them, unclick the box.
WARNING. DON'T REMOVE ANY PROGRAMS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ARE OR WHAT THEY DO. CHECK THEM OUT IN GOOGLE BEFORE DELETING OR REMOVING THEM.
