Imagine you'd come to a T Junction and turned right. On the return would the GPS device prompt you to turn left at the right place.

If you're using a 'real' GPS as opposed to a Sat Nav then yes, I have an elderly Garmin handheld that in 'back track' mode will take you back to your starting point, it doesn't really do left and right more east and west but the result is the same.
