netbook or tablet?

want to buy my 13 yr old either a netbook or tablet but cant decide which. its for browsing facebook, you tube, general internet etc. is there anything a tablet can do that a netbook cant? thanks

i would love to but its far too expensive, dont want to spend more than £250.

I love my netbook - a Samsung. I couldn't be doing with typing on a tablet screen for any length of time, you have to sort of hunch over it, and the on screen keyboard takes up half the screen.
Netbook screen is propped up at the right angle for viewing, can sit on your lap quite comfortably for both typing and viewing without having to hold it or find something to lean against.
Netbook has a built in screen protector when being carried around - the keyboard.
Netbook has more connections such as usb ports, memory card slots etc.
Netbook will have a much bigger hard drive.
Mine has a webcam and mic, so can be used for Skype (as can most tablets).

There is nothing a tablet can do that a netbook can't, as far as I know.

A netbook is a smaller version of a laptop.

A netbook is smaller and doesn't have a DVD drive. Usually a lot less powerful than laptops as well.

I agree 100% with hc4361 - netbooks are functional and do the job - tablets are for watching video and posing ...

Get him a secondhand Core Duo laptop they are only £100 to £150. Far more powerful than the latest puny netbook or a tablet, can multi task and watch HD movies with ease. I recommend the Dell D630 or IBM T60, they are business grade laptops and build like tanks.
