Not all mobiles come with a connector as far as I know, but you will need one.
I'm swearing at mine to get photos transferred to my pc.
The cable isn't expensive.
When connected, (From my memory) a box should appear on your lappy along the lines of 'Found new hardware', follow the instructions.

if i am honest don't know how, but have some from the camera which will have to also download, so see what can be done. The place, event, organisation was first class, and the athletes absolutely amazing.
DT's very helpful in explaining how to do it.
My stumbling block is they just won't transfer to the pc!! Even my savvy young alba's can't understand it.

Modern handsets accommodate cables to the PC, hopefully the PC will show the mobile as a disk. If not there will be software around to spot it. (Older ones did not necessarily have a cable option.)

If your mobile supports bluetooth you can get a connection from that also. Your PC needs to have a bluetooth connection of course. Bluetooth dongles for PCs are not too expensive.
might help if you say what mobile you have
It's not as complicated as u think to transfer photos and videos from your phone to your pc.
Connect the phone to the pc and let the pc go through the motions of "found new hardware" etc.
You don't need to install any of the software, like "Nokia Suite" or whatever phone you've got.
Usually you'll get a prompt asking you to open up the appropiate drives, usually "F" or "G". If you don't get this prompt, go to "My Computer" and open up the new drive. Locate the folder containing the photos/videos (they will usually be conveniently labelled "images" or "videos").
Then all u need to do is drag them across and drop them onto the desktop (or create a new folder and drop everything into that). Everything will still be on the phone, 'cos you're copying everything, not moving everything.

i am trying to solve this, and by the way who is the nitwit Dallas, that post makes no sense.
I bought said connector, plug in, now what. At one point message box said there is no driver for this device,
sorry it's like the blind leading the blind.
Does it actually make a difference what mobile, it's samsung
by the way
any simple explanation would be most welcome.
Have you considered using dropbox? I'm using that at this very moment to upload some pictures that I took during today and, once uploaded, they are immediately available to download to my PC.
Question Author
apologies what is dropbox..

my old phone was easy compared to this, sorry i am going round the bend.
does your phone not have a slot for a micro sd card? my samsung does and i just take it out after storing everything on it and put it in my little card reader which is attched via usb lead to the laptop.
I use a memory card in my phone. Put all pictures on it then remove card from phone. Insert card into reader on my Epson printer and 'bingo' - no connectors needed. Pictures are on computer instantly.
https://www.dropbox.com/tour - it can be set to automatically upload every picture that you take with the phone or you can turn that off (as I have done) so that you manually select what pics to upload. Once uploaded then you simply access the program's folders on your PC.
I've downloaded that samsung software, 12+ minutes download, it then has taken around 20 minutes to install and now it won;t open!
Question Author
I haven't as yet, as honestly i am not sure what i am doing. to load pictures from the camera is easy, take out card, load into slot for card, download pics.
