iTunes & iPd

Hi Folks
Hopefully someone can help with one ... I assume it's something I've done but, for the life of me, I can't work out what it is !!!
Having recently added an album to my iPod via 'importing' it to iTunes, I've found that the iPod is 'shuffling' the tracks &, effectively, 're-numbering' them, track 1 on iTunes becoming, for example, track 8 on the iPod !!!
The 'shuffle' is off on the iPod & the same on iTunes & I've tried making the tracks part of a 'compilation' then not, as it were.
It may seem trivial but the album 'imported' is a live concert so the tracks jumping about is a pest !!
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong as I've never encountered this before ?
Thanks folks.

in itunes right click on each track in turn, select "get info", click on the info tab and put the correct track number in, then re-sync with your ipod.
