Whose phone is it?

I paid £83 for the phone with an Orange 24mth contract. After 14mths of dreadful coverage and service, they have finally agreed to release me from the contract because of signal issues. I'm relieved to be released but........ Orange want the phone back. As I see it, the phone was a seperate purchase, albeit part of the same transaction, and I should still own the phone. Does anyone know how this works?

what does your contract say about the phone?

Depends on which phone it is. If it's an expensive smartphone, then the £83 you paid would represent a tiny proportion of the real cost of the phone. The remainder would be subsidised by Orange, subject to you completing the contract. So this would not be a separate purchase, it would be a conditional supply based on the contract period.

That's what Orange say Roj. I'll have to check the small print. That isn't clear at time of purchase.

you only got he phone at that price subject to you paying for 24 months service - you havent done that... so you do not own the phone.

they are not the ones unprepared to fulfil the deal i suppose.

otherwise loads of people would be doing this and getting expensive phones really cheap.

they may let you keep it for an extra cost
