Wanted email as spam

I am using an Asus laptop with Windows 7 with btinternet. Emails from one of my friends go straight to spam. How do I stop this happening and why is it happening?

Thanks, giz, I'll try that. Still wondering how a respectable married woman librarian in Canada sent something picked up as spam though!
