If you are a Chrome user, by goodness me, removing the McAfee virus protection hasn't half done wonders for performance of Chrome, both in terms of speed and stability.

I discovered this issue with McAfee amidst their support blah and The Builder helped me get it off the system, see my last Technology thread if you want the link.

My main protection is through Bullguard, so yes I am protected (not that daft). However, do ensure that you have a protection programme in place before removing McAfee.....

I stopped using Mcafee a couple of years ago, when it started to scan you couldn't use the computer it was so ridiculously slow. I use AVG now and that's fine.
Is Bullguard free? I use AVG which is free, I also got into the McAfee fiasco, I didn't realise you have to pay every year, soon got rid of that!
Hey, DT .......... maybe we'll get a Geek Badge for this ;o)

I must admit I use nothing more than the (free) Microsoft Security Essentials, plus the occasional Malwarebytes scan.

Ann, Bullguard is free for the first two years with my Asus and seems to be pretty ok.....I have Malwarebytes as a back-up. The performance without McAfee is startling though and I have gone since yesterday without the need to start up and page refreshment is still as quick.

You never know, Builder, a geek badge! I am close to a 100 best answers now but don't know whether the Ed has something to accord that lowly feat - apart from a kick in the bum.
I downloaded Chrome a few weeks ago. I wasn't aware it came with McAfee, does it????

I have never paid forMcAfee......

Just check your Programs Files, Prudie - In Windows 7, it is housed in Programs86 with a Data File too.....Builder's link yesterday expunged it.
i have a good security package, but when downloaded adobe update it loaded the McAfee as well, not entirely sure why, but i got rid of it.
I might have to consider removing McAfee myself. This weekend I had to resort to Explorer as Chrome was grinding to a halt and eating resources.

Home IT support has buggered off for a while so I'm a little cautious of tinkering myself.......

it's very easy, eccles, if you go about 2/3rds the way down The Builders link page and follow it from there.
I'll be big and brave later in the week......perhaps......
