Yes, you should leave your laptop on and let it complete a full scan.
Just make sure that the laptop is running on mains power (not battery) and that it is on a hard flat surface with nothing obstructing the ventilation.

Ps. I find a kitchen worktop protector made of glass and on little raised feet just perfect for leaving a laptop running unattended.

Does it need a full scan urgently?

seem to howard
Does it matter? I never shut my laptop down unless I'm going on holiday.
Would it not be safer to do that during the day in case it overheated?
Don't think it would do any harm would it.
I don't know about laptops but I never run my desktop overnight.
I shu mine down every time I've finished with it - why leave it on, drains the power?
Same as boxtops
I always shut down overnight just in case it gets hot or something. Put it on first thing in the morning. My last full scan was 2 and a bit hours.
There's no problem leaving it on overnight, although on the default settings for most computers it would probably go onto standby after an hour or so.
But with the lid down it goes to sleep anyway
Not if you set the power saving options to do nothing when the lids shut.
I do a full scan during the day, it doesn't stop you using the PC.....

My apologies for not returning to this post and thank you all for helping.
we close down both desktop and laptop when we go to bed - there is no need to leave them running, I'd worry about the laptop overheating.
