Adding DHTML Layers

How would I go about adding additional layers after the page has loaded by clicking a button? I do not want to hide/ show layers, but actually generate additional layers.

You create a button that has the action onClick(), this calls a function that makes a previously hidden layer visable. It is possible to have a pool of waiting empty layers, and have the html loaded into them as needed and made visible via this method.
