My freeview box with a hard drive has given up the ghost so I need something to record programmes on now.
My new TV has built-in freeview so I just need a basic recorder, can anyone recommend one please?

Don't forget if you only use a basic recorder that you can only record what channel the TV is set on ie: what your watching

That's no use then................what sort will I need?
Humax!

Do you want HD and do you want catch up TV via the internet (requires the box to be connected yo your router and a reasonable speed broadband connection)

Not bothered about catch-up on the TV Chuck. My PC has a 23" screen so am happy to watch it on there.
I've read the Which report and apparently I need one with at least a 500Gb hard disk, twin tuners, and EPG..............god life does get complicated!
If your with Talk Talk or BT you can get the new "Youview" box free! £50 installation charge.

If you go with Sipowicz suggestion, the box is free but you pay for installation (about £50) and then you pay monthly I believe.
If you go with ChuckFickens suggestion here is a link to the type of Humax you might like. They're not cheap but there is no installation cost and no monthly fee

Missprim, I did say "if your with". I presume craft1984 has a ISP, if, as I said it is either Talk Talk or BT he/she is already paying for that.
I said 'then you pay monthly I believe.' as when I looked into getting one myself I thought I read you have to pay £14.50 extra a month for it.
Are you saying that if you are already with TalkTalk (as I am)you don't have to pay extra each month, just the installation cost? if that's the case I might get one myself.
Exactly!
Right, I'll be on the phone to TalkTalk tomorrow to see about getting one of those.
