Question not making a lot of sense....

But if it's asking for a key look for it on the windows license sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

WHY did he erase his hard drive?

HOW did he erase his hard drive?

If the hard disk is empty it is no surprise he is getting problems as if there is no operating system, like Windows, on his hard drive it wont start.
