Homegroup is part of Windows 7 (and Windows 8 I think). It may even be part of Windows 8 on phones (I am not sure)

Have you set up a Homegroup, or has someone else in your house (or maybe a visitor with a laptop or phone) set up a computer using a Homegroup perhaps.

Homegroup is a way of linking various Windows computers together.

Hi there - thanks for your response. Only hubby and I have access to our computer (nobody else in the house) and neither of us have intentionally installed anything. The icon has in the last couple of days appeared on the desktop of our laptop. If you right click it, there is no option to delete it and I can't find it when you go into control panel - uninstall programme.

You mention a visitor setting up a computer - no there has been nobody here who would do anything like that but you've now got me worried that somebody OUTSIDE our home might have been trying to access our computer ... is this something I need to be concerned with or can I cross it off my List Of Things To Worry About?
Is your laptop connected wireless to the internet using Modem/Router? Changed Modem/Router recently?
Question Author
Yes it is connected wireless via router. No, it's the same one as we've had for several years.
