New Ipad Mini - Won As Prize - Do I Need Receipt To Register It?

Hi everyone - I was lucky enough to win a new iPad mini. It arrived yesterday and is new in its box. I entered the competition to try and win one to replace my husband's old iPad, but he wants the full sized version and not the mini. My question is, can I sell the ipad mini without a receipt? The people who ran the competition presumably have that. Would a buyer simply be able to open the box and register the iPad mini, I know it came from Apple direct. I've decided to sell it and use the money to go towards the standard iPad for him. Thank you.
