I want to buy a really good new printer. Primarily I want one that will print great 'snaps' and photographs. My present one only prints 'washed out' vibrant colours (it's a Canon ip4600).

Maybe it's the camera, not the printer.

That sounds like an oxymoron to me. You are probably better of googling some reviews.
Its a good printer. Look elsewhere for your problem. What program are you using to print from. Is the screen calibrated? Are you using the correct Canon profile to print from? Paper settings? Decent paper and inks?

Like Methyl, I suspect that your problem is related to the paper you're using, rather than to the printer. (Canon's Pixma printers are excellent - I've got one myself).

While you can get away with using 'budget' inks in most printers, you'll only get decent results if you use really good quality photo paper. Buy some Kodak Ultima paper and you'll be amazed at what your current printer can do.
I've recently bought a 3 in 1 Canon Pixma MG5150, which gives amazing photos and I also use discount cartridges which are brilliant. Why would anyone want to pay a fortune for these these when the cut price ones do exactly the same job?

Thank you all. I suspect the answer is with me! I use a top level SLR Canon and good quality paper and original inks BUT I do not follow the instructions between Photoshop CS2 and the printer. Thank you.
