Buzzing Wii

I have finally unpacked my Wii after moving eighteen months ago. Wanted to use the Wii fit I bought 2 years ago and never opened. Didn't have
the muffin top then.
Blew off the dust and inserted new batteries but the remote buzzes....any ideas why and how can I shut it up?

Is the wii switched on? Does it have a game in there ready to be played?

Sometimes, when my son forgets to turn a game off, the remotes will randomly just start buzzing on the table. Does my head in.

Blue (friend of Pete)...all set up and ready to go....daughter did it. Buzzing is awful.

Sorry, Gness, I completely forgot about this.

Had a quick look online, and it appears it's quite a common problem.
Some suggest holding down the A button and gently "whacking" the side of the controller on the palm of your hand (serious) as it can dislodge any static.
