Hi. For the last month my computer keeps showing black rectangles at the top left of my screen, mainly on Facebook and Hotmail. Not sure how to post a copy of the page to show you (if someone tells me how I will).

Anyone know what could be causing this?

To take a screenshot, you need to press the button, then open Paint. Click on Edit (From the pull-down menu) and select Paste. You'll then need to save the image and then go to something like Photobucket and upload a link to the image (You can't paste a link to your hard drive). Then someone will be able to identify the problem and provide an answer.
That should read

To take a screenshot, you need to press the PRT SCR button, then open Paint.

Ooo look, black rectangle.

I don't really know but wonder if your graphics card has enough resource (memory). Strange things can happen on screen if it's short. (But it's probably some different issue.)
Try disabling addons and see if that solves it

Thanks Rojash, but can you tell me how to?
Presume you are using Google Chrome Web Browser. If so, check to see what the result is you use a different Browser such as IE or Firefox.

Check that you have up-to-date versions of your systems Graphics driver, plus latest Adobe Flash Player and Chrome versions. Check at each stage to see if the problem is fixed.

If the problem persists you could also try disabling Graphics Hardware acceleration. Assuming you are using Win 7, instructions for setting this are:

1. Choose Start > Control Panel.
2. Double click Personalization and select Display Settings.
3. Click Advanced Settings.
4. Click Change Settings on the Troubleshooting tab (If the option is available)
5. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None.
6. Click Apply and then click OK to accept the new setting and close the dialog box.
7. Click OK to close the Display Properties dialog box.
8. Restart Windows.

You can always undo this by redoing the above and sliding the accelerator bar to Maximum.

It won't allow me to change the settings in the Display settings. But I tried Hotmail and Facebook through Explorer and there are no black boxes so it must be an issue with Chrome.
"Thanks Rojash, but can you tell me how to?"

Click on the three horizontal bars at top right, to get the menu, then select Settings
On the left, click Extensions
Uncheck the "Enabled" box next to each addon

Go and visit a site where you've had the problem. If it's no longer a problem, repeat the above process, enabling each extension in turn and then revisiting the site. If the problem reappears, you've found the duff extension (the one you enabled last) and can uninstall it.

Question Author
Thanks Rojash, it appears to be the RealDownloader which was causing the problem. Is it OK to remove this permanently then?
"Is it OK to remove this permanently then?"

Well, only you know why you installed it in the first place, but generally speaking, yes.
