Blocked From My Computer

My new sony vaio (windows 8) will not accept my password and says I am blocked, even if I get to home page, and click on AB (for example) it will not open. It's all in Spanish and just don't know what to do. Even dvds won't play, pelase help in siple terms thnk you very much (grrr I hate Windows 8)

I don't understand - if it won't accept your password, how are you getting to the home screen in order to click on AB?

Are you attempting to logon to the Windows 8 System using a Local User account or are you trying to use an external account name, for example a Windows Live id: [email protected]

If it is an external account that you are trying to use, such as live.com, check that the external account is not blocked at, for example, the live.com service end.

I remember reading somewhere that Windows 8 doesn't come bundled with any media player whatsoever, to play videos and CDs you would have to download and install some software such as VLC player (free and very good).

Am using just a password no emaIL addy. when I jumble my fingers on the keyboard it sometimes goes into the home page but cannot click on anything! I do have VLC installed. It says wrong passwod but then it says blocked under my name.

If your windows 8 language is set to use a Spanish text, plus a Spanish keyboard layout, which may be the case since you mention Spanish text displaying, it maybe that the password characters you enter as an English Keyboard layout are not in the same location.

To check for the keyboard differences take a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KB_Spanish.svg to see an image of a spanish keyboard. If there are any keyboard differences try using the password character key equivalent as per the Spanish keyboard layout image.

If that manages to somehow work, you should at least be able to successfully login.

Thank you all for help and suggestions. I finally went back to the shop (not a computer shop) and they spent two hours sorting it out for me (I had downloaded Ares and it had gone berserk!!) They also changed all the menus into English, I am au fait with Spanish but not when it's so technical! So am up and running again. But another thing, how do I do special characters? I have found the Character map and the pound sign is U+00A3 but how do I do that, don't have enough fingers??

If you are looking to enter special ASCII characters via the keyboard, for example into a Notepad or OUTLOOK mail session, then you should be able to hold down the Alt key and at the same time enter the ASCII code in decimal number format that represents the special character via the NUMBER KEYPAD, then release the Alt key and the special symbol should appear on screen. Note that it does not work for all applications. It should work in a system Command window. Note the numbers MUST be entered via the active NUM KEYPAD, else it will not work!

The code 00A3 that you say represents the pound symbol, is a HEXADECIMAL code which translates to 163 in decimal number format and does not represent the ASCII code for the Pound symbol! It should be 156 decimal number i.e. Alt+156 on the NUMBER KEYPAD.

The Code 00A3 Hex=163 Dec which produces a special character of ú.

A list of all ASCII codes can be found at http://www.asciitable.com. The Dec column is the code numbers to use with the Alt+NUMBER KEYPAD sequence.
