Android Internal Memory Low

My Galaxy Ace won't receive texts as it says the internal memory is low. It won't update AVG either. I've removed all texts, including from the History (took 10 mins), removed all photos and the only 2 apps I had but it hasn't cured the problem. It says I have 18 MB available, which is the same as my partner's identical phone but his works fine.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

If not already attempted, try removing the battery to power the unit down then re-seat the battery and power on. This in theory should get rid of any system memory / application conflict problems.
