When I do full scans, it completes the job after about 400,000 items. (My friend has 800,000!) I have about a million words in documents but very few pictures and not many music downloads and no films. Should my load be reduced and if so what kind of programmes or junk should be uninstalled?

So you mean when you do some kind of malware scan. Generally, a full malware scan will include registry entries, cookies, temporary files, system files, programs, essential windows elements, documents, and other data. How many items get scanned is a pretty meaningless measure of what's on your computer - it's just the scanner bragging about how much work...

" it completes the job after about 400,000 items. "
I haven't the faintest idea what that means.

It says 400,000 items have been scanned when scan complete. Always more of less the same number, depending on activity between scans.
