Where Are All The Channels?!

I purchased a flat screen JVC TV (No: LT-26DA20J) in 2006. It features fully intergrated digital TV (DVB-T?). Also says 200 programmes from VHF, UHF (analogue) 500 programmes for digital mode. My problem is I only have 18 channels 'working'. Why? (Would like YESTERDAY!) Do I need to re-tune it (How?) By the way, if it matters, I do have a brand new aerial on the roof! My TV in the bedroom was purchased last year and I have all the freeview channels on that one, including YESTERDAY>

I dont know much about it but have you done first time installation?
menu...settings...installation...first time ...?
Believe it or not, you can only receive channels that are actually broadcast. Just because a TV would be capable of receiving and storing more, if they were available, doesn't magically make them available.

Hi all, Yes I have done first time installation (6 years ago!) Have I to do it again?(!) Still dim when it comes to technology!
Yes! Channels are being updated all the time. Run a First Time Installation and let us know what you get.

Hi MichaelZZ, I did try to re tune it earlier but got 'scared' as it said I would lose all existing channels so I, in my naive way, assumed I wouldn't have any channels. Tell me I'm daft, I can take it!! (Right - now what did I do?)
you are daft...do it
Question Author
Hi MichaelXX again! Ooops! I mean re-install not re-tune! (Don't I?)
Do it again and when it says do you want to lose existing channels and carry on say yes.
What you're agreeing to lose is the channel where it was when you first tuned it.
Reinstallation will simply place all your channels, and possibly some new ones, where they are now.

I'm back, having just re-installed the channels but still no YESTERDAY! After re-installing, 'it said' do I want to scan analogue channels YES or No. (I think that's what it said - I've forgotten now!) I said YES. it made no difference so I re-installed again without the analogue channels but nothing is different. My PC is 'playing up' now!?!? Oh the joy's of technology! Talk Talk engineer is coming tomorrow to install their TVView box. I may cancel it within the fortnight & get a Freesat. A one off payment seems the better deal.
Question Author
Talk Talk installed the Youview box today. But if I want to just put the TV on & use the set channels, there's no signal even though the aerial is only 2 days old. I'm saying this as I reckon I've dropped a clanger by going over to Youview when for a one off payment for, say, a Freesat, I can get numerous channels. Getting back to the No Signal bit, I pulled out what I presumed was the aerial in the Youview box & replaced it with the aerial lead that the aerial chap put in but still no joy. So like a clever little girl, I then pulled it out & sensibly plugged it into the tV - still didn't get signal. It all reads a bit gibberish doesn't it!? What's happened?
aerial to box in...cable from box out to tv.........that what you have ?
also do you have tv set on correct av selection..ie that for box ?
Question Author
Hi Murraymints, Sorry for the delay but got called away. You ask if I have aerial to box in - cable from box out to TV. So should there be 2 cables then? One into box and another out of box into tv?? I thought I had the correct AV selected ie DGV. tho I've tried them all!
Question Author
Me again murraymints. I'm off to bed now. Hopefully the chap who installed the new aerial yesterday will come and sort it out tomorrow & then I shall cancel SKY & TALK TALK & settle with Freeview or Freesat. Feel exhausted! G'night & thx for yr advice!
