Don't know about iPods so just guessing here, but if anything goes wrong can you not re-load your tunes from your old computer?
dont just plug it into the new computer!

if you do, it'll ask you if you want to associate your iPod with that new computer, and if you say yes then it'll replicate whatever's on that itunes setup to your iPod. this means that if there's no songs in that iTunes, you will erase everything on your iPod!!

here's what you do (assuming windows machine):

download and install ephpod onto the new computer:

www.ephpod.com

then using that, you can copy your songs from the iPod to the new computer's hard drive. then you can add all these songs on the hard drive to iTunes on your new computer. then you can plug your iPod in, it'll ask if you want to associate that iPod with that new computer, press yes.

that should be it.

(probably easier methods, but thats a method that wont fail. there should be easier methods)
When you connect the ipod to the new comp it will (unless you have specified 'update playlists manually') sync with iTunes and potentially wipe your pod. You will need to move over all your music and the iTunes preferences file.

You don't say whether you're on a mac or pc, so sorry if this is a bit vague. More info required.
