Can anyone explain how a game can help scientists analyse data more quickly through public use?

it's not a game but you can contribute to such scientific research using BOINC https://boinc.berkeley.edu/ which runs while your computer is idle

Since there is a "hackathon" being run over this weekend, and the "game" won't be devised until after this weekend, with a launch date of Summer 2013, I think we'll have to wait and see what the "game" will ultimately use on your smartfone.

I'd expect that the app will run in the background tasks, so using the idle time of the smarthpone's CPU, but as I said, we'll have to wait and see.

Sorry about a lack of info but I can't find a URL for this yet....was an article I picked up on a news app which doesn't show urls.
They have said that a game due for release this summer titled "Gene Run" will help scientists analyse data in a matter of months - rather than years to help in the fight against cancer!

PC's were used for similar things a while back, SETI for instance.

It uses your spare processing power and time to analyse data that they send you, and you send back the processed data.

this way they get to harness a gazillion devices and all the extra data processed for nothing.

i'm guessing this app will work the same way
