Posted this in chatterbank - in most of my postings random words are coming up in red - when I accidentally click onto them they are advertisements but to me they are distracting. anybody help here to get rid of them - bednobs or buen said something about malaware bytes - I think I have that in control panel - how can I get rid of these red words. Thanks

Did you run the Malwarebytes program as suggested? By running that it would help to eliminate some of the 'infections' on your computer.

society just after looking in the control panel and the malaware bytes thing is there - what shall I do now.
I have just downloaded IE10 and now find some of the misspelt words in Answerbank are coming up red.

I think it is the spell checker in IE10

vhg - went into bbc news to have a geek and can't believe some of the words in the news are highlighted too - and are advertisements. so that surely couldnt be spell checking.
It sounds like you had what I had a lil' while ago.
When you click on the word in red - it usually takes you to the same website (I think, though I can't really remember ??). It's always an advert of some description - VERY annoying to say the least.
Open up control panel and (depending on what version of Windows you've got) open up the section where you can delete installed programmes .... it might be called "add/remove programmes" or "programmes and features" or something similar.
Have a look at all the installed programmes and look for something you're not familiar with.
I somehow managed to install a programme on my laptop - I can't quite remember what it was called but it was something like "click to shop" or something along them lines. Anyway when I uninstalled it, everything was fine, so it sounds like you've done the same as me. Somehow a programme has sneaked its way on to your computer ....... your mission, should you choose to accept it ...... is to seek it out and destroy it :P

Good luck :)

Malwarebytes is a very useful program for finding spyware and malicious software on your computer.
You need to re-install Malwarebytes, as this is a useful programme that you should run periodically, to find and eliminate malware and spyware.

I don't know why the problem has gone, but I can assure you that malwarebytes wouldn't have been the problem ...... unless it was a fake version that you'd installed.

Go here:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
.... and click on the green arrow where it says, "Download now. CNET secure download".
we turned off our spell checker, too annoying.
I've remembered what the rogue programme was called. It wasn't "click to shop" it was called "brouse to save" so maybe you've got the same programme.
Have a look under your programme list and see if there's a programme called, "brouse to save" ..... if there is, then delete it ...... and re-install malwarebytes.

giz - just looked into control panel and found "price peep" - never heard tell of it sounds like a shopping thing and it was - deleted - back to my answerbank am still getting the red words again. anything else I can try
Question Author
forgot to mention also installed malaware again
Question Author
sorry just reminding you folks of my plight - still getting those ruddy red words. any more help.
.... all I can suggest is to have another look thorough your list of programmes by looking at control panel > add/remove programmes (or programmes and features) and look for dodgy looking programmes ..... also - do a full scan with malwarebytes and see if that finds anything.
that's definitely a text link advert, some plug in on your browser. I had it, but can't recall how I got rid of it.
Google 'remove text link ads' or hopefully one of the techies will see this again soon
