when i click on the Paint icon on the start menu, it says missing shortcut and that Paint isn't on our computer. It's always been on our computer and it was there the other day. I'm guessing its been deleted (i dont know why, how or when), so how can i get it back?

mspaint is installed with windows ands is only an executable file (No DLL's or registry entries) so can be deleted fairly easily.  You could try going to control panel then add/remove programs.  click on add/remove windows components on the left.  From here you can...you guessed it...add and remove features that come with windows.  Highlight accessories and utilities then click details. Highlight accessories then click details again.  tick paint then click ok. this should install paint for you.  if it is ticked already untick it then click ok, then repeat and retick it.  This is the procedure for windows xp, but should be similar for 98, 2000 , ME, etc...
actually, before you do that search your c: drive for mspaint.exe.  It should be in the c:\windows\system32 directory.  If you find it just re-create your shortcut.  If not then do what I said before.
