The digital photos I have on my computer from my camera are quite large files, I guess as it's a 4 milliona mega pixel one.  If I want to send any photos via email or messenger, because they're large, they take ages. Basically, is there any way to reduce the size of them once they're on the computer to make them fewer kb's?  They're already saved as jpegs.

Thanks

Straight forward way that requires just Windows and Paint......

Open with Paint and using image>Stretch And Skew just alter the %'age to a lower value, then resave as JPEG as a different name.

There are Shareware and Freeware progs out there, but this is a nice simple way.

irfanview is a programme u can download from the net that is all about resizing pics to whatever size u want and therfore the smaller they are the smaller the file size. it is free to dwnload and is dead easy to use. just google it and u should find somewhere to get it free
Use any prog and resize the picture to something like 800x600 pixels. If you want to preserve the quality of the original picture, save the smaller image under a different filename and then it'll be slightly smaller than the 4 million (wow!!) megapixels that your pictures currently are.

As you've mentioned, save them as jpegs.
If the pictures are of something not too colourful or detailed then you could try to "reduce colour depth" to less than 16 million colours and save as an appropriate file type.

Thanks very much, I'll give them a go!

Oi no need for sarcasm! I know 4 million isnt very many Stevie21, but I've been used to a lower one and these pics do seem to take forever to send in comparison.

If you are on Windows XP you can just right click them and you'll get a 'resize pictures option'.

Try downloading Picasa from Google

http://picasa.google.com/index.html

It's a great program for managing digital photos - including editing and e-mail. It searches your computer for all your photos and any changes you make are effective in Picasa only - it does not touch the originals !!

Magic !!

Cameras at the moment are about 4 megapixels, not 4 million megapixels, hence the "wow".
Your camera must be an absolute cracker. Hope you got the picture problem sorted.
